The Environmental Health Officer will maintain an appropriate and up to date record of all assessments, inspections and daily work activities performed. Implement policies in accordance with the objectives, principles and functions of all relevant legislation.
Key Result Areas
- Perform the duties of an authorised officer under the Food Act 1984 and the Health Act 1958. This includes conducting compliance assessments, inspections, investigating consumer complaints, undertaking food and water sampling and assessment of food safety programs and their performance.
- Maintain a sound, efficient and up to date knowledge of corporate policies and strategic plans, and of all relevant legislation and statutory requirements.
- Perform the duties and responsibilities of an authorised officer in respect to any specific local law where such authority has been vested pursuant to the Local Government Act and under the Litter, Tobacco, Domestic Animals Act and Local Laws as required.
- To assist in the implementation of business plan strategies through working parties, committees and on project teams
- Provide information and advice to key stakeholders in relation to administration of legislative requirements.
- Carry out any other duties as lawfully directed by the Chief General Manager of the Department of Human Services.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
- Bachelor of Applied Science (Environmental health) or equivalent including eligibility to be a member of the Australian Institute of Environmental Health and / or experience in a related field.
- Demonstrated ability to apply relevant legislation and corporate procedures and policies;
- High level understanding of customer service principles and practice, and demonstrated ability to apply those principles to internal and external customer interaction;
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with all levels of staff, commercial and professional stakeholders.
