Company culture is one of the key features in choosing your next workplace. When speaking with candidates around 90% are looking for the right environment as opposed to a higher salary. More and more job seekers are looking for an overall job satisfaction. This is why it is important for a company to make sure they are seen in a positive light.

There are several ways of investigating a company's culture before accepting a role. Here are some techniques to use in determining if a company has what you are looking for. Here are some tips on how to work out if a company has the best culture for you:

1) Make Contact with Current Staff Members

Try and make contact with staff members who are currently working at the company. You can do this via a message on LinkedIn or other social media platforms. Once you have found a staff member who is happy to chat to you, ask them why they like working at the company and what are the positives and negatives. The more people you are able to talk to, the better idea you will have on the company's culture.

2) When doing a Face-to-Face interview make sure to be observant in your surroundings

If you have a face-to-face interview with your employer, it’s highly likely that you will get a chance to look through the office when you walk through. Be observant look at the employees as you walk through. Do the staff look happy? As much as looking at workers and the environment look at the state of the equipment workers are using. This will give you a good indication of how much the employer values their employees.

3) What is the Company's Overall Mission

Ask current employees what is the company's overall missions/visions? If workers know what the mission is, it means they are involved and value their employer. The more workers know about the company it’s highly likely the more they are passionate about their workplace.

4) Does the Company ad Value to Your Skills?

Does the company add value to you? Does the company offer training and workshops that will benefit you in the long run? With constant up-skilling of workers, you are more inclined to stay longer within the role.

5) How were past employees treated when they acted inappropriately

Ask about previous employees and whether there was any inappropriate behaviour against company policy. Were they treated fairly and what were the repercussions. Were the correct procedures followed?

6) Are there staff rewards?

Find out what staff events the company holds per year. Are there monthly celebrations for staff member birthdays? Are there any group rewards if targets are met for the month. These perks can really boost team morale and be what seals your final decision on taking the job.
