1 ) Make sure your contact details stand out. Place them at the top of your resume, they need to be either bold or a font size larger than the rest of your resume.

2 ) The design of you resume is key. Make sure it’s formatted correctly. Use a clear font such as Arial, Calibri, and Cambria. Depending on your industry you can create a bold design that will emphasis resume. Unless you have 20 years of experience your resume shouldn’t be 2 pages long. Enhance your last 3 previous roles or the roles that showcase your experience for the job you are applying for.

3 ) In the past we have been told to put an objective into our resume. Scrap this section and instead write a personal synopsis. Your synopsis should focus on your achievements, your time within the field and what technicals skills you can offer. This instantly gives the employer an idea of who you are.

4) Skills lists are handy to have on your resume but what is even better is getting rid of this and incorporating your skills into your work experience.

5) Technology has taken over the job search and large companies are now using software to filter out the best candidates. Use key words that are essential for your role. These can be found in the criteria located in the job description.

6 ) The most important part is read the Job Ad, understand precisely what the employer is looking for and tailor your resume for this position.
